About

The Nursing Perspective, Brought Into Focus

Canha Legal Nurse Consulting is an independent practice founded by Bruno Canha, a registered nurse with more than 15 years of international clinical experience across Brazil, Ireland, and the United States.

His background spans surgical oncology, infectious diseases, hospital quality, multidisciplinary operations, and nursing leadership — the settings where the nursing record is written, and where it is most often decisive. That experience is brought to bear on one task: helping legal teams understand what the medical record actually shows.

Specialized, evidence-informed nursing analysis for law firms handling complex healthcare matters. We organize medical facts, identify clinically significant issues and clarify timelines so attorneys can evaluate cases and work effectively with medical experts.

Engagements are objective and evidence-informed. The work product addresses nursing care, clinical events, documentation, and applicable standards — clearly organized, source-referenced, and prepared for attorney review. The practice provides independent nursing and clinical analysis to legal teams; it does not provide legal advice or physician-level opinions.

Based in Valencia, Pennsylvania, the practice serves attorneys and law firms locally and, as engagements develop, across the United States.

How We Work

A Discreet, Structured Engagement

Step one

Confidential Inquiry

A confidential, non-PHI initial inquiry by form, email, or phone — general terms only, with no patient-identifiable information.

Step two

Conflict Check & Scope

A conflict check and scope discussion to confirm the clinical questions, deliverables, and timeline before any records change hands.

Step three

Engagement & Secure Transfer

An engagement agreement is put in place, and records are transferred only through an approved secure channel arranged at that point.

Step four

Review & Deliverable

Evidence-based record review producing an organized, source-referenced deliverable — chronology, analysis, or research summary.

Step five

Questions & Final Delivery

Attorney questions and clarifications are addressed, with final delivery under the agreed terms.

Fees are scoped to each engagement — the clinical questions involved, the volume of records, and the deliverable required. No fee is quoted before the scope is understood.

Expertise

Areas of Principal Expertise

The practice concentrates where the founder's clinical background is deepest — the areas where nursing documentation, vigilance, and escalation most often shape a case.

Surgical Oncology

Perioperative and post-surgical nursing care, complication recognition, wound and drain management, and the documentation trail of the surgical patient's hospital course.

Infection Prevention

Healthcare-associated infections, sepsis recognition and response, isolation practice, antimicrobial timelines, and the infection-prevention standards hospitals are held to.

Hospital Quality

Patient-safety systems, incident patterns, policy-versus-practice gaps, and how quality structures — audits, handoffs, escalation pathways — succeed or fail at the bedside.

Nursing Standards of Care

Assessment, monitoring, communication, and intervention duties of the registered nurse, measured against professional standards, guidelines, and institutional policy.
